214th receives a flag to be flown over Afghanistan base.

It’s been a busy week for the 1/214th Field Artillery Battalion.

The unit was honored last night at a banquet presented by the Woodmen of the World Elberton lodge.

Paul Rowe, who is with the branch, said it was the lodge’s way of saying thank you to the troops.

“We wanted to say thank you for your service, and we wanted to say that we are supporting you, we are praying for you, and we are looking forward to the day that you can return home to your families and communities”, said Rowe.

Rowe turned the podium over to Battalion Commander for the 1/214th to LTC David Casey, who spoke very highly of the support his battalion has received from Elbert County

“The support here in Elberton has been unparalleled. Not every unit in the state of Georgia and across the nation has been received as well as we have been received as a family”, said LTC Casey. “I tell ya, the folks up here with us this evening, should give all us a good feeling that these folks will be watching our backs and families while we are gone.”

An American flag was presented to LTC Casey during the banquet to be flown over the battalion’s base in Afghanistan.

Following the flag presentation, the battalion coin was presented as a token of appreciation to the Woodmen of the World’s Elberton lodge.

The banquet was held at the Elbert County 4-H Center.
