Main Street Elberton is focused on its second October event, coming up later this week.
The event is the 1st Annual Pumpkin Festival, set to take place on the downtown square in Elberton.
Director of Community Affairs for the City of Elberton Tiffany Gibbons says this particular event is a new one for Elberton.
Gibbons says they are encouraging people to go ahead and start working on their pumpkins for the pumpkin carving contest which is planned to take place at the festival.
“You need to have your pumpkins ready, get them ready at home. Because if you ever carved a pumpkin it can get messy and take a while”, said Gibbons. “There is a one dollar entry fee to enter the contest, and we will take the pumpkins and put them on display that evening.”
She says there will be a ton of different contests and activities appropriate for all ages during the event, and Elbert Theatre Director Toni King says it’s all about having a good time.
“Everything that we are doing is just fun, it’s a fun time for everyone to come and enjoy themselves”, said Kings. “It’s about saying we had fun on the square and having everyone say they had a good time and them wanting to do this again next year.”
The inaugural Pumpkin Festival will take place on Thursday, October 24th at 4:00pm, and Gibbons says the festival should wrap up around 6:30pm.
She says it’s a great event in anticipation of all the trick or treating that will be occurring on Halloween.
