The new 4-H Center located at the old Beaverdam Elementary School building played host to the 2013 Farm City Breakfast event.

The event is a presentation of the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce and the Elberton Kiwanis Club.

Highlighting the breakfast, was the presentation of the 2013 Farm Family of the Year award.

This year the award was presented to Fran and Bill Moorehead of Hawks Nest Farm.

Bill and Fran moved to Elberton in 1993, and started the first certified organic greenhouse in Elbert County.

The name Hawks Nest Farm originated from a pair of hawks that had made their home on the couple’s property.

The pair has a lot of activity taking place on their 42 acre farm including high quality timber growth, cattle, goats, and a vegetable and herb garden.
