The approval of an amendment to the 2013-2014 school calendar Monday night wasn’t the only calendar addressed by the Elbert County Board of Education.
Also approved on Monday was the school calendar for the 2014-2015 school year.
Elbert County Board of Education Chairman Ben Baker said the school board only approves a recommended calendar, and has no actual say on the issue.
Baker pointed out that if any parents had concerns, they shouldn’t place blame on the school board.
“As always, for the record, the school board only approves the recommended calendar. We do not get to vote or have any input on this calendar, so anyone that is unhappy needs to see all of the teachers and staff that voted for this calendar”, jokingly said Baker during Monday’s board meeting.
The 2014-2015 school calendar was approved with a unanimous 4-0 vote, with Board Member P Jo Phelps not in attendance during Monday’s meeting.
Next year’s school calendar consists of 180 student days and 190 teacher days, and of course that is contingent on budget preparations and legislative appropriations.
