Coming up on Saturday, the Free to Breathe foundation will be holding a 5K Run and one mile walk to raise funds to help those afflicted with lung cancer.
Online registration for the event has closed. Runners can register the day of the event for a cost of twenty-five dollars.
Tiffany Hudak, founder of the event, said that the money raised goes to a great cause.
“The money that is raised goes towards the National Lung Cancer Partnership. It is a group made up of researches, patients, and advocates who are dedicated to decreasing deaths by lung cancer”, said Hudak. “One of the ways they do that is through the research portion, so a lot of the money raised goes to fund research studies related to lung cancer.”
Hudak said that this event has really taken off since the inaugural 5K race was held back in 2008.
“The very first year we had one hundred people and we raised $6,000. Here we are at our 5th year. Last year we had 450 people and we raised $30,000. This year, we already have over 350 people registered and we have already raised $41,000. So our goal now is to raise $50,000 this year”, said Hudak.
Registration and check-in start at 7:30am on Saturday, November 10th. The 5K race begins an hour later at 8:30am, and the one mile walk starts shortly afterwards at 8:45am.
The event will take place in Athens, Georgia at Sandy Creek State Park; located at 400 Bob Holman Road.
