A big evening is in the works for former elementary school students who will be making the transition to the Elbert County Middle School.
5th grade orientation is scheduled for this evening, where upcoming fifth graders and their parents will get an idea of what to expect this upcoming school year.
“We’ll go over things with the parents such as what teams the teachers are assigned to, the daily schedule for a 5th grader, and we will also talk about morning arrival and afternoon dismissal in detail so parents are comfortable with how their children will arrive and leave from school”, said ECMS Assistant Principal Sandy Drake.
She says the orientation will be led by Principal John Jarvis, and that they will go over other key information for the incoming students.
“We’ll also be going over the dress code, and we will cover a few topics that are always of interest such as cell phone use, and other things that are in the student handbook”, she said.
This will be the second school year after the county wide consolidation plan went into effect that 5th graders are attending ECMS.
Drake said that in the inaugural year of the changes that everything went about as smooth as it could have.
“The students and teachers felt well received in the middle school, and adjustments were made at the school to make it as easy a transition as it could be for everybody”, explained Drake.
Orientation this evening will be held in the Middle School Auditorium beginning at 6:00pm.
Following the presentation, students and parents will have a chance to tour the campus of the Elbert County Middle School.
