Less than a month remains before the 6th Annual Granite City Cook-Off takes place on the downtown square in Elberton, Georgia. John Hubbard, who is on the Granite City Cook-Off board, said that they are expecting a great turnout for the cook-off.
“We are hoping to have twenty grills and twenty vendors because that is the space that we have for them. If we get more than twenty, we can find somewhere else to put them.” said Hubbard.
Applications for Grill Masters and Vendors are still being accepted, and can be picked up from Sissy Herring at City Hall, John Barnett, or they can be picked up at our offices here at WSGC Radio off of Jones Street. The cost for Grill Masters to enter the cook-off is $75, and those wanting to be vendors will only have to pay $25, and the deadline to have those applications turned back in is August 31st.
The purpose of the Granite City Cook-Off is to fund scholarships for students at the Elbert County Comprehensive High School. According to Hubbard, the cook-off awarded three $500 scholarships to high school students last year. Hubbard said that the money raised during the cook-off goes directly to fund the scholarships.
“Every bit of the money that we take in, we give directly to the scholarships, we don’t take a penny and use it for anything other than the scholarships.” said Hubbard.
The Granite City Cook-Off will be held on September 15th on the Square in Downtown Elberton. The event will begin at 9:00am and will last until 3:00pm.
