Abbeville Police Chief Neil Henderson has resigned amidst sexual harassment allegations.

Henderson has served as the city’s police chief for nearly a decade before resigning late last week. Captain Skipper O’Bannon has assumed the role of Police Chief after the resignation of Henderson.

According to the Index-Journal, a source said that city officials gave Henderson a choice to resign or be fired on Tuesday.

Their source states that Henderson’s departure came in connection with allegations he sexually harassed a fellow officer at the department.

The situation is continuing to unfold said Acting Police Chief Skipper O’Bannon, who declined to comment further to an Index-Journal reporter.

O’Bannon is a candidate for the vacant Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office post where a special election is coming up in May to fill.
