The American Red Cross is holding their first blood drive of 2014 in Elbert County early next week.
Red Cross Spokesperson Kristin Stancil says the winter is a time of the year when historically, the blood supply decreases, while demand typically remains the same.
“Well during the winter months we see fewer donors because people get really busy with seasonal activities and celebrating the holidays so we see fewer donors, however the need continues”, said Stancil.
The first blood drive will be held at a very familiar location, which is the First Baptist Church of Elberton.
Stancil points out some of the requirements that must be met before someone can donate blood.
“The requirements are you must be at least seventeen years of age, or sixteen with parental consent, you must weigh 110 pounds and be of good health”, said Stancil.
She also adds that you can donate blood once every fifty-six days.
The drive at First Baptist Church will be held on Tuesday, February 4th beginning at 2:00pm and lasting until 6:00pm that evening.
