Coming on the back of the arrest of a Hartwell, GA man responsible for several burglaries in Elbert and surrounding counties, the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office is increasing public awareness to help prevent future burglaries.
Arrested last week was 31-year-old Cedric Armon Rucker of Hartwell, GA, who was responsible for seven burglaries in Elbert County, and for at least sixteen burglaries in Hart County.
Elbert County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Darren Scarborough encourages Elbert County residents to keep an eye out for one another.
“If you drive by your neighbor’s house on your way to run errands or whatever, take a peek over at your neighbor’s house just to see if you see a strange car in the yard that you don’t normally see over there”, said Scarborough. “If you are going to be out of town, always let someone know, so they can check up on your home.”
He also says you can notify the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office and they will do their best to keep a check on your home or property.
Scarborough also had a message for any would be burglars who think about setting up shop in Elbert County.
“If you come to Elbert County, we will do our very best to make sure you are caught, and if you are caught we will do our very best, through the District Attorney’s office to make sure you are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law”, stated Scarborough.
This time of year, the amount of burglaries tends to increase; most likely due to all of the holiday shopping that has taken place leading up to Christmas.
If you notice any suspicious activity you can contact the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 283-2421 or in an emergency situation, dial 9-1-1.
