Another Scam Reported in Elbert County

June 20, 2013

Scams continue to be a frequent occurrence in Elbert and surrounding counties, and now a new version of a classic scam has surfaced.

The repeated scam of having to send money to receive a large amount of money in return is back with a new twist.

“There’s another one out now, where they are sending out a letter saying you have won about $125,000; but they are asking you to send them $1,800”, said Scarborough. “We’ve said it over and over and over, if they are asking you to send money to get money, then it is a scam.”

Investigator Darren Scarborough with the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office says the letter is from a company called Safeway Incorporated.

He says that if you receive a letter similar to this one, to please be sure and contact your local law enforcement agency, and to not give out any personal information or send any money.

Good news to report, as the person who reported the scam did not provide any money or information to the scammer.
