Applications Still Being Sought for Elberton PD’s Police Explorer Program

October 3, 2013

The Elberton Police Department is still accepting applications for its Police Explorer program.

Heading up the program this year is Special Operations Officer Sgt. Macon Clark, who says the program offers a lot of opportunities for Elbert County’s youth.

“They do regional and national competitions and earn college scholarships to help them further their career, or it gives them a jump start to get somebody started in the career in law enforcement”, said Clark. “I know that is how I got started out with the Hartwell Police Department. It is just an excellent opportunity to help out with the community and learn about law enforcement.”

In order to participate in the program, kids must be between the ages of 14-21 and must have completed the eighth grade.

Sgt. Clark says they will accept as many participants into the program that they physically can.

The program hasn’t had as much participation the last few years, but Clark says he is looking forward to jump starting the explorer program this year.

Those interested in participating can pick up an application at the Elberton Police Department, or you can contact the Police Department for more information about the program at (706) 213-3130.
