Those frequenting the Athens area that use the State Route 10/US 78 bridges over the Apalachee River at the Walton/Oconee County line can expect some delays over the next week or so.
If the weather cooperates, beginning today bridge beams will be delivered to the site weekdays through Tuesday, November 5th.
According to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation, about five beams will be delivered each day.
The outside lane of the westbound bridge will be closed to traffic from 9:00am until 4:00pm as beams are delivered.
This roughly seven tenths of a mile project was awarded to C.W. Contracting, INC. of Marietta at a cost of $2.6 million.
The project calls for the construction of a new bridge for the westbound lanes of the SR 10/US 78; also the eastbound bridge will be rehabilitated.
The project completion date is slated for May 31st, 2014.
