The Elbert County Blue Devil basketball teams pulled off wins last night against the East Jackson Eagles at home in the Inferno.
The Girls got their second region win of the season to go 2-2 in the region with a 56-37 win over the Lady Eagles. Overall that takes the Lady Devils record to 4-5. The game started off slow but the Lady Devils managed a 4-1 lead but East Jackson would battle back and tie things up at 6. In the second quarter the Lady Devils would take a 14-6 lead midway through and would not look back. The teams would go into the half with the Lady Devils leading 24-11. Shakira Harper would lead with seven points for the Lady Devils at the break.
The third quarter would see the Girls extend their lead, nearly doubling the Lady Eagles points with a score of 43-22 heading into the fourth. The younger Lady Devils would come in and get some playing time in the fourth. Despite fouls and missed free throws still troubling the Lady Devils, they would come away with a 56-37 victory. Tiawanna Griffin was named the player of the game.
The Boys easily handled the Eagles. The Blue Devils jumped out to 6-0 lead and never relinquished their lead. The Devils ended the first quarter with a 17 point 27-10 lead. The second quarter would see the Eagles try and chip away at the lead getting within 11, but the Blue Devils finished the quarter with a 43-30 lead. Marc Moon was leading in scoring for the Devils with 14 points heading into the half.
After the slow second quarter the Blue Devils would come out in the third and really start to put the Eagles away. The Devils would go up 20 with 68-38 score heading into the fourth. The Eagles would still not make any progress and the Devils would go on to remain undefeated on the season with a score of 80-54. Marc Moon was named Player of the Game for his 30 point effort.
