Blue Devil Basketball Squads Continue in McDonalds Shootout

The Blue Devil Basketball squad continued with the McDonald’s Classic in Hart County Saturday.

The Blue Devils, after losing to TL Hanna Friday, moved on in the tournament after beating Stephens County for the second time this season. The Blue Devils go up early in the first but the Indians would make a comeback to tie things up at 11 after a low scoring first quarter. The start of the second quarter would continue with slow offenses as Elbert would hold a 15-14 lead midway through. After a couple of lead changes the Blue Devils would be up at the half 25-21. Marc Moon spearheaded the offense with 6 points for the Devils.

The Blue Devils would attempt to pull away in the third quarter going up 35-25 and would head into the final period up 43-32. Sloppy playing on the part of the Blue Devils would allow the Indians to stay in the game. Stephens would be able to get within seven points but the Devils would do just enough to pull stay ahead. The Blue Devils would advance with a 59-52 victory. Marc Moon led the offense with 18 points and Tim White had 11. The Blue Devils will be back in action on Monday at 4:00.

The Lady Devils who defeated the TL Hanna Lady Yellowjackets on Friday were scheduled to take on Carrolton Saturday.

There would not be much space between the two teams in the first quarter but the Lady Trojans would hold a 9-6 advantage. The second quarter started to look like the Lady Trojans would pull away as they went up 16-9. However, a surge from the Lady Devils at the end of the half would give them their first lead but the Lady Trojans would score in the final seconds to go up 22-21 at the half.

The third quarter would feature some pretty stout defense from the two teams. The teams would be all tied up at 29 heading into the fourth and final quarter. It would prove to be a tight contest that would go down to the wire. The Lady Devils would tie the game up at 31 and briefly take the lead. However, the Lady Trojans would go up by three points with less than .45 left in the game. The Lady Devils would not be able to make a push and would take their first loss in the tournament 39-34. Tonisha Fortson led in scoring for the Lady Devils with 10 points. The Lady Devils will be back in action on Monday to wrap up the McDonald’s Classic.
