The Elbert County Blue Devil Basketball squads kicked off the new year Friday against the Cedar Shoals Jaguars at home in the Inferno.
The Lady Devils came away with a 51-41 win to head into the thick of their region schedule. It was a tight contest between in the two teams as there were plenty of lead changes in the first half. The Lady Devils would head into the locker room down by one with a 19-18 score. Kara Ledbetter had 6 points at the half to head the offense for the Lady Devils.
The 3rd quarter would see the proper adjustments made as the Lady Devils would take the lead early and head into the 4th with a 34-27 advantage. The Lady Devils would not give any ground and extend their margin to ten to take a 51-41 victory. Jimera Hill’s 11 points would lead the Lady Devils offense.
The Blue Devils would also find themselves in a tight ball game that would see some overtime action and a victory. Elbert would hold a three point, 18-15, advantage after the first quarter and appear to start pulling away during the second taking an eleven point lead at one point. However, the Jaguars would battle back and pull within five to head into the half with a 28-23 score.
During the third, again, it appeared that the Blue Devils would pull away but the Jaguars would have none of it and pull within two with four minutes left in regular time. The two teams would end the fourth tied at 61 all. It appeared no space would develop but thanks to some clutch free throws from Montavious Tinch the Devils would acquire a 69-66 victory. Marc Moon finished the contest with 33 points. Tinch was named player of the game for his game winning free throws.
