The Elbert County wrestling team concluded their season over the weekend. After a delay to the State Tournament due to the weather the Tournament was rescheduled and the Blue Devils showed up with record results.
The Devils finished in 3rd place in the state which, according to Coach Shane Anderson, ties the highest team finish in wrestling for Elbert which was in 1996. The team gained two new school records of 4 state finalists and had 6 state placers. Furthermore this will be the 4th year in a row that the Devils managed a top 10 finish.
State Placers include Freshman Jamarcus Allen at 106, placed 6th and is the second freshman to ever place at state from Elbert; Sophomore Aj Edmond finished 4th at 182; Junior Ken Allen placed 2nd at 285 which is his second time placing at state; Senior Bain Johnson placed 2nd at 113 losing to the returning state champ in the finals; Senior Dylan Sanders finished 2nd at 170 after tough overtime loss in the finals; and Senior Dessen Bolton came away the State Champion in the 220 weight class finishing with a record of 50-4.
Coach Anderson said of his team that he could not be any more proud at how they competed and mentioned this senior class goes out as the most successful class to come though Elbert County.
We here at WSGC would like to congratulate the wrestling team for their hard work and dedication throughout the season.
