Blue Devils and Lady Devils Do Well in First Track Meet

The Elbert County Blue Devil and Lady Devil track teams came off a pretty successful first meet at Oglethorpe on Tuesday, March 11th. Outside of the Devils and the Patriots, East Jackson, and Prince Avenue were also in attendance.

The Lady Devils placed second as a team with 57 points, which was one point away from East Jackson who had 58.

Scoring for the Lady Devils in the field was Kayla Teasley who got 4th in the Discus with a throw of 80-02. In the relays the Lady Devil’s 4×100 team grabbed 1st with a time of 51.5 and 4×400 teams grabbed 1st and 3rd with times of 4:50.6 and 5:21.8 respectively.

In sprints, Angel McClary placed 1st in the 100m with a 13.1. Taliah McClary placed 1st in the 200m with a time of 26.5, Tonisha Fortson grabbed 3rd at 27.4, and Angel McClary took 4th at 28.6. Shatara Allen managed a 3rd place finish in the 400m with a time of 1:12.

In Distance, Maggie Hall took 1st in the 800m with a time of 3:06, Ashley Bond placed 3rd with a time of 3:27.9 and Hannah Graham finish 4th at 3:40. Hall, Bond, and Graham also swept the 1600m with top finishes respectively with times of 6:48, 7:54, and 8:23.

The Devils took the top spot at the meet with 89 points followed by Oglethorpe with 56.

In the field, Dessen Bolton placed 2nd in the discus with a throw of 124-01 and Justin Burton placed 5th in the shot put with a throw of 40-03. Dallas Yeargin was able to bring home a 4th place finish in pole vault with a vault of 7-06. In high jump Marquice Dye placed 1st with a jump of 5-08, followed Aarion Allen at 5-04, and Tarodrick Stanley placed 4th at 5-02. In long jump Rantious “Boochie” Reed and Mecole Hardman took the top spots. Reed in 1st with a jump of 19-11.75 and Hardman followed at 19-10. Hardman also captured the top spot in the triple jump with a jump of 41-09.

The Devils 4x100m and 4x400m teams took the top spots in the relays. The 4x100m team finished with a time of 41.8, the 4x400m team finished with a time of 3:42 seconds, and the Devils also had a second 4x400m team finish 2nd with a time of 3:51.

In sprints, Marquice Dye finished 2nd in the 100m race at 10.7, followed by Zak Allen in 3rd at 11.2, and Trey Barnett finished 5th at 11.6. In the 200m sprint Zak Allen finished 2nd at 22.7 and Dimeris Newman placed 4th with a time of 23.9. The 400m race saw Trey Barnett take the top spot with a time of 57.6, followed by Joseph Johnson with a time of 57.8, and Isaac Allen in 5th with a time of 1:00.

In the 110m hurdles Marquice Dye took the top spot at 15.3

In the distance races, Deunquavis Odister finished 1st with a time of 2:22.2, Westley Allen finished 4th at 2:26.9, and Justin Harless followed in 5th at 2:28.2. Allen also managed a 5th place finish in the 1600m at 5:38.7.

The Blue Devils and Lady Devils will be traveling up to Jefferson Saturday, March 15th for the Jefferson Relays.
