The Elbert County Blue Devils got exactly what they needed Friday night with a big win on the road against the Jaguars of Cedar Shoals.
A slow start for both teams was the highlight of the first half as both teams struggled to score the football, as the score headed into half time stood at 10-6 in favor of Cedar Shoals.
The tuned changed in the second half in favor of Elbert County as Blue Devil quarterback Mecole Hardman took over the game, racking in over two hundred yards rushing in the second half alone. He finished the night with two hundred and sixty-nine total rushing yards with two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown thrown by Tim White on a trick play to close out the first half.
That breakout performance helped carry the Blue Devils to a 27-19 win over Cedar Shoals.
With the win, the Blue Devils improve of 1-1 overall and still have no record yet in region play.
Without much discussion Mecole Hardman was named the American Pest Control Exterminator of the Game for his outstanding performance.
Next up for Elbert County is Homecoming, as the Blue Devils will take the field for the first time in the regular season in the friendly confines of the Granite Bowl.
