Your Elbert County Blue Devils would defeat the Evans High School Knights Friday, September 14 38- 7 for their first victory of the season. That takes Elbert to 1-2 this season.
ElbertCountyreceived the ball at the beginning of the 1st quarter. The Devil put a nice opening drive together which included a 51 yard run by Tyshon Dye and fullback K’taro Cade would get the Devils down to the 1 yard line. However, a costly offside penalty would take the devils back 5 yards and would have to settle for a 25 yard field goal by Ty Martin making the score 3-0.
The Devils would force a punt from the Knights and have the ball at the end of the 1st quarter. The teams would exchange punts but with under 6 minutes left in the first half quarterback Mecole Hardman would break a 69 yard run for his first touchdown of the year. A good point after would make the score 10-0 in Elbert’s favor.
The Knights would drive to Elbert’s 31 yard line but would not be able to score off the drive. The Devils would get the ball back with 1:30 left in the half and put together a four play, 51 yard scoring drive and take a 17-0 lead into the half.
Elbert would kickoff to the Knights who would return the kick to the 45 yard line. The Knights would drive and score off 1 yard run making the score 17-7
The Blue Devils would get a good return off the kick off and put a nice drive together to score in the 3rd quarter making the score 24-7.
The Knights would punt to the Blue Devils at the end of the 3rd quarter but a fumble would give the ball back to the Knights. Evans would not be able to capitalize and the Devils would get the ball back with good defense.
Another fumble by Elbert would give the ball back and again the Knights could not take advantage of the opportunity. An interception would give the ball back and be returned 68 yards for a touchdown by Elbert’s Randy Jones.
With under 5 minutes left in the 4th a long run from K’taro Cade would tack on another 7 points making the final score 38-7.
