Blue Devils Suffer First Loss; Girls Victorious

The Blue Devils and Lady Devils kicked off the McDonald’s Shootout in Hart County with back to back games against TL Hanna High School out of Anderson, South Carolina Friday.

The Lady Devils took on the TL Hanna Lady Yellowjackets in the first game and quickly went down 6-0. The Lady Yellowjackets would control the first quarter as they would lead 12-9 at the end. However, the Lady Devils would not go down without a fight and would battle back in the second. The Girls would tie things up at 12 with 6:00 left. The teams would swap leads but the Lady Devils would close the half with a 23-17 lead. Jimera Hill lead in scoring at the half for the Lady Devils with 9 points.

There would be very little offense to start the third quarter as their would only be a total of five points scored between the two teams. The Lady Devils would hold a 26-19 lead heading into the final period. Steals would be the name of the game for the Lady Devils as they would play a huge role in helping them come away with a 37-31 win over TL Hanna. The Lady Devils greatly improved on their fouling and missed free throws that have troubled them all season. Jimera Hill lead in scoring for the Lady Devils with 11 points. The Lady Devils will be back in action at 4:00pm Saturday and will face the winner of Carrolton and Stephens County.

The Boy’s game would feature two unbeaten teams. The Yellowjackets would jump to a quick 6-2 lead but the Blue Devils would put an end to that quickly going up 16-8. The first half would see plenty of lead changes but the Blue Devils would take a 31-26 lead going into halftime. Marc Moon led in scoring with 16 points.

The Blue Devils would continue to control the lead through the third quarter but the Yellowjackets would stay close on their heels. At the end of three the Blue Devils would lead 49-45 as the game would come down to the final quarter. The Yellowjackets would battle to take the lead early in the fourth going up 52-49 and continue their surge to go up 59-51 with just over a minute left in the game. The Blue Devils would not be able to pull through and suffer their first loss of the season 67-59. Marc Moon led in scoring for the Blue Devils with 32 points. The Boys will be back in action at 11:30am Saturday and will face the loser of Woodmont and Franklin County.
