Your Elbert County Blue Devils took on the Oconee County Warriors on October 5th and would destroy the Warriors 62-21.
The game got started off immediately in favor of the Blue Devils as Brett Mills intercept a pass from Oconee quarterback Conner White on the EC 30 yard line. The following play from Elbert would lead to a Mecole Hardman 67 yard scamper for a touchdown and the Devils would take a 7-0 lead. Elbert would again take advantage of another Oconee turnover. Tyshon Dye would waste no time in getting in the endzone as he would take his first hand off of the game and take it for a 61 yard touchdown.
At 9:30 in the 1st quarter the Blue Devils would have a 14-0 lead. Oconee would put a drive together which included a 4th and 10 conversion in EC territory that would lead to a score for the warriors to take the score 14-7. Elbert’s next possession would start at the Oconee 20 yard line and The Devisl would drive down the field and Tyshon Dye would get in the endzone on a 27 yard run.
Elbert would force a punt from Oconee and take the ball into the 2nd quarter. Elbert would drive and Tyshon Dye would run the ball in from 14 yards out to take the score to 28-7.
Oconee would put another drive together and due to a roughing the kicker penalty would be able to score a touchdown from 4 yards out and cut Elbert’s lead in half to 28-14.
After an Oconee kick off Elbert would get the ball on their own 20 and K’taro Cade would take the ball 80 yards for a touchdown. A good extra point would take the score to 35-14.
Randy Jones would come up with an interception on Oconee’s following possession. Elbert would drive and Randy Jones would be able to punch it in from 3 yards out to take the score to 42-14 with 2 minutes left in the half. Elbert would kick off to Oconee and force a turnover on downs. Elbert would again drive with a 40 yard gain from quarterback Mecole Hardman and K’taro Cade would punch the ball in from 7 yards out for 49-14 score. Oconee would kneel to take the game into the half.
For the second week in a row the 2nd half would see young player getting in to play for the Blue Devils and a running clock. Elbert would put a drive together and Ereon Teasley would get in the endzone to take the Devils up 55-14.
The 4th quarter would see a missed field goal from Warriors. Elbert would take over and freshman Trey Barnett would score off a 52 yard run to take the score to 62-14.
Oconee would be able to get in the endzone with under 2 minutes left in the game to make the final score 62-21. That takes the Blue Devils to 3-2 this season.
