The Elbert County Blue Devil Basketball teams had their second games of the weekend on Saturday at Morgan County.
The Lady Devils got dismantled by the Lady Bulldogs Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs wasted no time as they were out to a 23-5 lead by the end of the first quarter. The second quarter the Lady Devils would not be able to close the gap and Morgan County would hold a 20 point 39-19 lead to end the second.
The second half would not see any improvement for the Lady Devils as they would still be down 20 heading into the final quarter. The Lady Bulldogs had the Lady Devils number and Elbert would take their fifth region loss with a 61-46 score. Jimerra Hill led the Lady Devils in scoring with 12 points and Taliah McClary was named Player of the Game for her defense.
The Blue Devils were in a tight battle with the Bulldogs but were not able to pull out the victory. The teams would be neck and neck during the first; Morgan County would hold the advantage with a 16-14 score to head into the second quarter. During the second the Bulldogs would start to pull away going up 25-18 midway through and maintain a 39-26 score to take into the half.
The third quarter would see the Bulldogs maintain their lead going up 10 at one point but the Devils would manage a 47-41 score to head into the final quarter. In the fourth the Devils would manage to make it a game pulling within 2 points with a 54-52 score. However, the Bulldogs would tighten up and come away with a 57-52 victory handing the Devils their second region loss. Marc Moon spearheaded the Devils offense with 27 points and was named player of the game.
