Bowman Protest March Route Shortened

September 13, 2012

The Concerned Citizens group of Bowman, Georgia has had a change of plans for the upcoming protest march.

The original route was set to begin at the Bowman Community Center, and would have followed State Route 17 to the Elberton Civic Center. Due to safety concerns however, the march has been moved to September 17th at 4:30pm.

The group will gather at the Civic Center for a rally, and then march to the Elbert County Board of Education building for the board’s regular monthly meeting. Darlena Carey, who is the main organizer of the event, says the closing of Bowman Elementary has been tough on the kids.

“It’s been awful. The hardship of the children going to Elberton has been so hard on them. It is just hardship all around”, said Carey.

The group is urging every person who is able, to come and support their efforts. They also ask that every person sign their petition to re-open the school. If you would like more information about the march, you can contact Darlena Carey at (706) 498-2569.
