At a called meeting at noon on Friday, the Elbert County Board of Commissioners approved their Fiscal Year 2015 millage rate.
The initial rate of 10.428 mills for both the incorporated and unincorporated was determined based off of the 2014 tax digest.
During the called meeting, a motion was made by Commissioner Horace Harper to approve a proposed one mill increase to the millage rate for the purpose of funding Elbert Memorial Hospital.
Commissioner Freddie Jones seconded the motion, which passed with a 4-1 vote with Commissioner Chris Alexander of District Three voting against the increase.
With the increase, the millage rate for both the incorporated and unincorporated areas of the county is 11.428 mills.
The Commission also approved the Elbert County Board of Education’s millage rate of 16.797 mills, which by law they are required to do.
With the approval of the school board’s millage rate, the total millage rate for Elbert County for Fiscal Year 2015 will be 28.225 mills.
