Formal charges have been brought against former Elbert County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Christopher Michael Cornell.
In a press release from the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, an arrest warrant was issued by a grand jury Thursday afternoon.
In the warrant were two counts of Violation of Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, and one count of Violation of Oath by a Public Officer.
Cornell, of an Anderson Highway address, turned himself in at 8:54am Friday at the Elbert County Detention Center, at which time he was arrested.
Bond was set at one hundred thousand dollars, and since his arrest, Cornell has already posted bond and has been released from the detention center.
At this time, a date for Cornell’s arraignment has not yet been scheduled.
