A local country artist, and his band, are about to get a shot at the big stage, after winning a Battle of the Bands competition hosted by WSSL 100.
Nearly a week ago Clay Page and his band bested several other groups for an opportunity to play at the KennyGate tailgate party prior to Kenny Chesney’s “No Shoes Nation Tour”, which takes place at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, SC.
The event takes place this Saturday May 4th, and Page says they are looking forward to the opportunity.
“Well of course I am excited, and I can’t wait to perform for the crowd that is going to be there”, said Page. “I hope it opens up some doors in that particular area, and I think it will be a great way to celebrate my 19th birthday as well.”
Despite this opportunity, Page says he is keeping his head on straight, and is looking towards the future.
“It’s a feeling like no other, and it is a big adrenaline rush even though this is a big leap in my career, but it is just a stepping stone to where I want to be”, he said. “With all this being said I have to keep my head on straight and remember those who have been there from day one.”
Page and his band, who recently opened for David Allen Coe, said this type of event is on another level.
“For one it is going to be a different crowd that is for sure, since the crowd at the David Allen Coe concert was pretty rowdy”, said Page. “Which I am not saying this crew isn’t going to be rowdy, but it is a whole different ball game, we are talking about Craig Morgan and Kenny Chesney after all.”
Clay is accompanied by band members Dustin Craine from Laurens, SC; Cody Strickland from Ware Shoals, SC; and Elliot Satterfield of Cross Anchor, SC.
The show takes place directly across from Williams-Brice and the gates open at 10:00am, with Clay and the band to begin performing at 11:30am.
