Georgia’s 9th Congressional District Representative Doug Collins sees his Israel Legislation pass unanimously on the house floor.
Last week the House of Representatives passed House Resolution 1992, the Israel QME (Qualitative Military Edge) Enhancement Act.
Speaking on the floor last week, Congressman Collins explained the purpose of the resolution.
“This legislation allows congress to conduct oversight of weapon sales in the Middle East with increased frequency. Due to the instability in the region, it is vitally important that qualitative military edge review process be revised to reflect the needs of Israel”, said Collins. “HR 1992 accomplishes this goal by directing the president to report to congress every two years regarding the assessment of Israel’s qualitative military edge in the Middle East.”
After the passage of the resolution, Collins said quote “America’s support for Israel should be strong and responsive to the changing threats facing our strongest Middle Easter ally.”
He said that support is vitally important now, more than ever.
“Now more than ever, congress must demonstrate its unwavering commitment to strengthen the US/Israeli relations in such an unpredictable time in the Middle East”, said Collins. “This is something that is needed, and it protects our interest, as well as Israel’s interests.”
Congressman Collins is the Vice-Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
House Resolution 1992 passed the House with a unanimous vote of 399-0; the bill passed by voice vote on November 20th out of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
