It was another tough defeat for the Elbert County Diamond Devils Wednesday, March 27th against Franklin County as the Devils lost 2-1. Senior Brett Mills would take the mound for the Devils.
The Lions would strike first with a run in the bottom of the first and add another with a solo homerun from Brent Honeywell in the bottom of the third.
The Devils would be held scoreless until top of the 5th inning. Caleb Norman would lead off with a single, the first hit of the game for the Devils, and would be driven in on a fielder’s choice when Wesley Dunn would ground to short. That would be the lone run of the game for the Devils.
In the top of the 7th Elbert would get the tying run in scoring position but would not be able to drive it in. The finale score Franklin 2 Elbert 1, the Devils start off their region play 0-2. Caleb Norman would be named Tri-County Technical College Play of the game for his two hits which were the only hits for the Devils. Head Coach Bruce Evans said his team is just trying to press the game and make to much happen, which is just a part of being such a young team.
The Diamond Devils will be back in action tomorrow as they will travel to East Jackson to take on the Eagles; that game will start at 5:55 and will be aired live on 1400AM and 96.5FM the Voice of Elberton.
