The Elbert County Diamond Devils lost in their first region game on Tuesday, March 26 to the Franklin County Lions 4-2.
It was a tough fought battle between the two schools. Jacob Smith started off on the mound for the Diamond Devils and would pitch a good game. After allowing a runner on in the top of the 1st he would strike out the next three batters. The Devils would come up to bat and Brett Mills would reach on a walk and would be batted in by Blaze Bruce to take the Diamond Devils up 1-0.
The 2nd inning would be three up three down for each team and in the top of the 3rd Lions would tie up the game at 1 all.
From the 4th inning until the bottom of the 6th it would be a pitchers duel until Brett Mills would be hit by a pitch and again be batted in by Blaze Bruce to take the Devils up 2-1.
It was looking good for the Devils as Smith would strike out the first batter in the top of the 7th and the Lions would be down to their last two outs until Wesley Waters would hit a solo shot over the left field fence to tie up the game. Elbert would not be able to produce a run in the bottom of the 7th and the game would see an extra inning.
The Devils would give up 2 runs in the top of the 8th and not be able to produce as they would leave two runners stranded in the bottom of the 8th and the game would end with the Lions ahead 4-2. Blaze Bruce was named Tri-County College Technical Player of the game for his two RBIs.
The Diamond Devils will have a shot at redemption Wednesday, March 27 in Franklin County today at 5:55. You can hear that game aired live on 1400AM and 96.5FM the Voice of Elberton.
