The Elbert County Diamond Devils lost to the Stephens County Indians last night 3-1. The teams were scoreless after the 1st but in the 2nd inning Blaze Bruce would lead things off with a single. Caleb Norman would move Bruce up with a sacrifice bunt and a double from Alex Bradford would drive in Bruce for the Diamond Devils lone score of the game.
The Elbert defense would be spectacular in the field helping Steven Webb, who took the mound for the Devils, get out of the first three inning unscathed. Unfortunately, heading into the bottom of the 4th inning would be all Stephens County. Back to back doubles would tie up the game at 1 but Webb would battle to get out of the inning.
The Indians would be able to add another run in the bottom of the 5th to break the tie and go up 2-1; in the bottom of the 6th, after Coach Evans made a pitching change to bring in Jacob Smith, the Indians would drive in another run before Elbert could get out of the inning. The Diamond Devil would not be able to produce in the top of the 7th and the Devils would take their 3rd loss of the season, losing to Stephens County 3-1.
The senior Blaze Bruce was named Tri-County Technical College Player of the Game for being the lone run and some nice defensive plays at first that required him to come off the bag to make the catch and still get tag for an out.
The Diamond Devils move to 6-3 on the season and will be at home Friday, March 15th to take on Madison County.
