It was a great game on Friday for the Elbert County Diamond Devils as they defeated the Madison County Red Raiders 7-4. Jacob Smith took the mound for the Devils to start things off. The Raiders would jump out with a 1-0 lead in the 1st but Elbert would be able to answer with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st when Jackson Jordon would hit a double that would score Brett Mills and Jacob Smith.
The 2nd inning would be scoreless for both teams but the Red Raiders would tie things up at to in the top of the 3rd only to give up a run to the Devils in the bottom of the inning taking the score to 3-2. The 4th would be scoreless again for both teams.
In the top of the 5th inning the Red Raiders would add to runs to take the lead and score to 4-2. The Diamond Devils would be down until the bottom of the 6th inning that saw the Devils score 4 runs. Caleb Norman and Wesley Dunn would reach base off a base hit. Catcher Jordan McCalla would move the runners up to 2nd and 3rd base and Brett Mills would drive in Norman with a single. Bryce Lunsford would be hit by a pitch to load the bases for Jacob Smith. Smith would pop up to centerfield giving the opportunity for Dunn and Mills to score. The Devils would add one more run to take the score to 7-4 before ending the inning. The Red Raiders had no luck in coming back and 7-4 would be your final score.
Jacob Smith was named Tri-County Technical College Player of the Game with his 9 strikeouts on the mound and was 1-4 at the plate with a sacrifice fly that scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning.
