In a sudden schedule change the Elbert County Diamond Devils where at home Wednesday, February 27th to take on the Lincoln County Red Devils.
Jacob Smith took the mound for the Diamond Devils to begin the game. The 1st inning saw the Red Devils jump out to a 3-0 lead with a home run from Holden Carruth. However, the Blue Devils managed to load the bases in the bottom of the 1st and get in 4 runs to take the lead.
Both teams calmed down in the 2nd and 3rd innings as no points were scored for either team. In the bottom of the 4th inning the bases would be loaded again for the Devils and Caleb Norman would hit a double batting in 2 runs. Jackson Jordan would then come up and drive a single between right and center field scoring Norman and taking the score to 7-3. The Red Devils would not be able to answer until the top of the 6th inning. With 2 outs a fly ball would drop in the infield and a double from Mike McIntire would drive one run in and a balk from pitcher Jacob Smith would advance another runner home to take the score to 7-5.
The Diamond Devils would not be able to add any cushion in the 6th inning to take the game to the top of the 7th for the Red Devils final chance. Jacob Smith would get one strike out before being replaced by Brett Mills to close out the game. Mills would allow a single, the next batter would fly out, and a strikeout would end the game. Jacob Smith finished with 7 strike outs in the 7-5 victory. The Diamond Devils move to 4-0 so far this season and will be traveling to Banks County for a rescheduled game Thursday, February 28th.
