Distance Devils Compete in Region Championship Race

November 5, 2012

The Elbert County Distance Devils had their Region Championship race on November 1st.  The Men’s team finished 6th out of the 8 teams in region 8 AAA. Sophomore Garret Ruff finished first for the Devils in 27th place out of the 56 runners with a time of 18:18.45. Freshman Benito Serna finished 29th with a time of 18:25.86, Trey Wansley finished 31st with a time of 18:34.38, Dylan Sanders finished 39th with a time 19.14.11, Jacob Heydinger finished 41st coming in at 19:15.23, followed by senior Trey Moore with a time of 19:16.00, and freshman Norberto Flores finished 46th with a time of 19:35.45.

The Lady Distance Devils finished 6th out of the 7 competing teams from region 8 AAA. Gail Whitehead finished first for the Ladies coming in at 12th place out of the 52 runners with a time of 21:47.91, Shelby Starrett finished 23rd with a time of 22:36.69, Maggie Hall placed 35th coming in at 23:54.19, Kallie Craft finish 42nd with a time of 26:21.55, and Sydney Pulled placed 45th coming in at 28:34.14.

It has been a tough go for the Distance Devils this season. Both teams are young and overshadowed by tough opponents in the region. Out of the 7 runners on the Men’s team 4 are promising freshman, one is a sophomore and another is junior. The team will be graduating one member in Trey Moore. The Lady Distance Devils are all sophomores. If the two teams are willing to keep up the hard work in the off season, then prepare to see two solid teams return next fall.
