The Elbert County Board of Education met for the final time this year yesterday evening.
During the board’s December regular meeting, the new tradition of honoring a classified employee continued.
Elbert County School Superintendent Chuck Bell explained the monthly recognition of an employee of the month was started to show gratitude to those employees who don’t seem to get enough recognition.
Selena Brown, Principal from the Elbert County Elementary School, presented the award last night to her school nurse, Jill Lavender.
“She always gives a smile to our students that are not feeling well, she is compassionate as she tries to determine each child’s needs”, said Brown. “She sees an average of fifty to ninety students a day, and even offers advice to the adults in our building when needed. Everyone in our school knows how much she loves the kids, and she is highly respected by our students, staff, parents, and community.”
Mrs. Lavender is the third employee to be recognized as employee of the month.
The next classified employee will be recognized at the school board’s January 2014 regular meeting.
