Athens Technical College and the Madison County School System are partnering up to construct the Regional Advanced Agriculture-Industry College and Career Academy, also known as RAAICCA.
The building will be constructed on the campus of Madison County High School in Danielsville, GA. The project will cost just over three million dollars to complete.
Elbert County School Superintendent Rick Higginbotham says the RAAICCA will be an extension of Athens Technical College.
“It’s basically an extension of Athens Tech that is focused on careers in agriculture”, said Higginbotham. “If Elbert County has students enrolled in our high school who intend to go to college to focus on a career in agriculture; they would be able to apply, and if accepted, would be able to participate in dual enrollment at the Madison County RAAICCA program.”
Higginbotham says that the RAAICCA program will not cost the Elbert County School system a dime.
“Our part of this is simply in support of them that we would allow our students to go there”, said Higginbotham. “So, what they will end of with is basically an Athens Tech satellite campus that’s focus will be on agriculture.”
The RAAICCA partnership is made up among the Madison, Clarke, and Elbert County School Districts; Athens Tech; the Madison County Chamber of Commerce; the Madison County Board of Commissioners; the Georgia Agribusiness Council; Georgia Farm Bureau; and the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association.
