The Elbert County Comprehensive High School announced that junior Dessen Bolton has been selected to participate in the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) / Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) 2013 High School Summer Math-Science-Technology Institute.
This two-week residential hands-on learning opportunity will be July 6-19, 2013, at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Dessen is one of twenty-six students from throughout Appalachia chosen for the all-expenses paid trip.
Students will work in teams on research projects, with each team comprising of three to six students.
The team approach provides an opportunity to conduct research activities and solve problems in a group setting.
Students will also participate in field trips to nearby industries, universities, and museums to see the applications of math and science in the real world.
Dessen was recommended for this honor by Mr. Ron Kidd, ECCHS Chemistry teacher.
