ECCHS Marching Band Closes Out Its Competition Season With Strong Performance

October 25, 2012

The Elbert County Comprehensive High School Blue Devil Marching Band ended their competition season on an extremely high note, no puns intended.

This past Saturday the band participated in the Lake Hartwell Marching Festival, where nearly thirty marching bands competed against one another.

Elbert County finished extremely strong, placing 2nd Place Overall in their respective class, and taking 1st place Drum Majors in their class. 2nd Place Awards included Overall Band, Percussion, and Color Guard.

According to High School Band Director Jay Sconyers, the band received Superior ratings across the board except in majorettes, who received Excellence status.

Sconyers said that his band has grown a lot from the first practice to this point.

“We really have come a long way, and it is kinda cool looking back at the first video that you took at the beginning of the year, and noticing improvements from the kids”, said Sconyers. “From the beginning of the year we have had a great group of kinds and it’s really cool to see how far it comes.”

He encourages everyone to enjoy the halftime show this Friday night.

“We will be performing the full show this Friday night at the Hart County. So come out and cheer the Blue Devils on to victory, and stay in your seats at halftime and watch our full show”, said Sconyers.

This past Friday night at the Elbert County / North Oconee game, was the first night that the band performed their entire show for the crowd in the Granite Bowl.
