The Elbert County Board of Education meets this evening for its regular meeting for the month of June.
During the board’s work session, the Fiscal Year 2015 budget was discussed.
Next school year will feature a full 180-day calendar for Elbert County Students, and there are expected to be no furlough days as well.
On the agenda for this evening however, is the consideration of tabling an amendment to the school system’s weapons policy.
Speaking at the board’s work session last Monday, Elbert County School Superintendent Chuck Bell said the change to the policy allows for a more case by case approach to be taken.
“With HB 826 going into effect on July 1, it’s necessary that we update our board policy on weapons, so that we are consistent with state law”, explained Bell.
Before that policy is adopted the school board will have to thirty days after tabling the amended policy.
This evening’s regular meeting of the Elbert County Board of Education will be held at the Board of Education office off of Laurel drive beginning at 5:30pm.
