Elbert Co. Sheriff’s Office Asking Publics Help in Preventing Burglaries

November 4, 2013

The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a call for help from the Elbert County community to help prevent burglaries.

According to Elbert County Sheriff Melvin Andrews, the amounts of burglaries are on the rise as the holiday season approaches.

“This time of year brings crime into our neighborhoods, and we want to remind everyone to be careful of anyone who may contact you trying to conduct fraud or a scam”, said Andrews. “We ask that anyone who witnesses any suspicious activity to please contact the sheriff’s office or your local law enforcement agency.”

Two recent burglaries prompted his office to increase public awareness said Andrews.

The first occurred at an Athens Highway home where a large amount of electronics were stolen and another burglary at a residence off the Anderson Highway where jewelry and firearms were stolen.

According to Andrews, in both cases, the perpetrators kicked doors open to gain entry into the homes.

Again, as the sheriff said, if you see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary contact your local law enforcement agency.

Those outside of the Elberton City limits can contact the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 283-2421, and Elberton residents can contact the Elberton Police Department at (706) 213-3130, or dial 9-1-1 in an emergency situation.
