The Elbert County 4-H BB Teams are coming off an impressive shooting display after a competition in Douglas, Georgia.
Sixteen teams were at the competition, which was held at Indian Creek Middle School in Coffee County. Over one hundred different shooters made up the sixteen teams.
BB Team Head Coach Dennis Bellew gives a quick overview on how competitions work.
“This type of shooting that we do is the Olympic style shooting, and it is four positions shooting”, said Bellew. “At this point we also have a safety test, which is factored into the score as well.”
Elbert County took first place in the prone, standing, and kneeling positions; and added a third place finish in the sitting positions.
In the safety test portion of the event, Elbert County had five shooters who made perfect scores.
Elbert County’s first team finished 3rd Overall, and the second team placed 7th Overall.
Individually, Steven Bells placed 1st and Lauren Brown placed 3rd.
Coach Bellew said this is one of the more unique sports that are out there.
“This is a family oriented program, and that is what makes it so unique”, said Bellew. “We teach the kids what to and not to eat, drink, and do. We tell them this is a gentleman’s and lady’s sport, and we have to conduct ourselves that way.”
Upcoming for the teams will be their respective district match, and then the state match, both of which will be taking place in March.
