This evening the Elbert County Airport will host Business after Hours, where there will be a ribbon cutting and terminal dedication.
Elbert County Administrator Bob Thomas details the work that has been put in out at the airfield.
“We were fortunate enough to receive a grant of 1.3 million dollars to extend the runway by over a thousand feet. We have also renovated the terminal building, and have made a very nice terminal for that facility”, explained Thomas. “Some grassing was also put in, so now there are no trees obstructing anything out there.”
Thomas said it should be easier now for jets and smaller planes to use the airport.
“We felt like because of economic development opportunities we needed to go ahead and expand our runway capabilities so that we could get small jets in here, and that it would much safer for smaller planes to come in and out of our airport”, said Thomas.
The ribbon cutting and dedication begin at 5:30pm this evening, and the event is open for the public to attend.
