Elbert County Basketball Squads Take on Franklin County

The Elbert County Blue Devil Basketball teams were at home Friday, January 24th to take on Franklin County in the Inferno.

The Lady Devils nearly upset the Lady Lions but could not quite pull out the victory. It was low scoring for the Lady Devils in the first quarter as it was only 2-1 midway through and the Lady Lions would hold the advantage. Franklin then would go on a huge run to go up 14-4 to head into the second quarter. The second quarter would find the Lady Devils down by 11 with a 21-10 score. However the Lady Devils would not give up and go on a run that would see them head into the half down 23-19.

The third quarter would see the Lady Devils nearly take the lead but the Lady Lions would remain on top with a 32-27 score midway through the quarter. It appeared Franklin would control the game by the end of the third going up 39-31. However, the fourth quarter would see the Lady Devils tie the game up at 44 with four minutes left in the final quarter. It would not be enough though, and the Lady Lions would come away with a 55-46 victory. The Lady Devils offense was spread around but Jimerra Hill led with 8 points. Tonisha Fortson was named Player of the Game for her second half efforts.

The Blue Devils game away with a victory in a tight, low scoring game that would see an overtime. The Devils would strike first and go up 10-0 early. The Lions would battle back and the quarter would end with the Devils up 12-7. The second quarter would see Elbert try to extend their lead but the Lions would only be down by 8 heading into the half with a 23-15 score. Marc Moon and Tommy Andrews both had 6 points at the half.

The second half would see little offense. The Blue Devils would go up 28-17 midway through the third and hold their lead 32-24 to head into the final quarter. The Lions would really start to battle back in the fourth as they would tie the game up at 40 with just over a minute left. The overtime would see Marc Moon come to life as the Devils would put the Lions away and come away with a 53-45 victory. Marc Moon lead the Devils offense with 21 points and was named Player of the Game.
