Elbert County Commissioners Approve Purchase of Used Patrol Cars

August 31, 2012

Yesterday afternoon the Elbert County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of two used patrol cars for the Elbert County Sheriff’s Department.

The Board approved a motion to purchase a 2007 and 2008 Crown Vic for the price of $19,500. Included in the motion, was the setting of $44,000 aside to purchase four more used patrol cars as they are found for similar prices.

According to County Administrator Bob Thomas, the vehicles are going to be purchased with SPLOST money that has been designated for the purchase of vehicles for the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office.

The motion passed with a vote of 3-2, with Commissioners Kenneth Ashworth and Harold Reynolds voting in opposition of the purchase.

Commissioner Ashworth said his main concern was that the SPLOST money has not being coming in like it used to.

The total request that was approved yesterday afternoon came out to $75,000.
