The Georgia Department of Transportation is showing some more love towards northeast Georgia, especially here in Elbert County.
The Georgia DOT recently announced twenty different projects to take place across the state, and one of those projects was the resurfacing of State Route 172.
Georgia DOT Spokesperson Teri Pope lays out the details of the project.
“The 172 resurfacing will go all the way through Elbert County”, said Pope. “It begins at 172 at the Madison/Elbert line, all the way through Elbert County, and into Hart County.”
The low bidder for the work was E.R. Snell Contractor, who is based out of Snellville, Georgia, in the amount of nearly 3.3 million dollars.
Estimated completion date is set for January 31st, 2014.
E.R. Snell was also the low bidder on a project announced back in early February by the Georgia DOT for the resurfacing of State Route 368 to the South Carolina state line.
Pope says that E.R. Snell is going to be pretty busy this year in Elbert County.
“E.R. Snell is going to be particularly busy, especially in Elbert County”, said Pope. “You’re going to see their trucks all over the place, so they will likely sync up their work since the projects are so close together.”
10.2 miles is the distance of the work on State Route 368, and its estimated completion date is for December 31st, 2013.
Pope says that work should begin on both of these projects sometime in April at the earliest.
