While working towards achieving a balanced Fiscal Year 2014 Budget, the Elbert County government is trying to finish out FY 13 under budget.
County Administrator Bob Thomas says that according to several different projections by County Chief Financial Officer Phil Pitts, that the county should indeed come in under budget once again.
He says if everything holds true, it would be the smallest margin in his tenure that the county has come in under budget.
Thomas says that a big part of coming in under budget will be attributed to the county’s department heads and employees.
“I just want to thank all the departments and all the people that work with the county that have done a good job, and again trying to have an austere budget and just keeping expenses down as much as we can”, said Thomas. “We can’t do it by ourselves, it takes a team effort to do it and so I really want to thank all the employees for doing what they can to help keep the budget down.”
In the last six years, the county has finished with a surplus at the end of each respective fiscal year, and if able to do so again, would make seven consecutive years of finishing under budget.
The 2013 fiscal year comes to a close at the end of the month on June 30th.
