The Elbert County JROTC’s Ethics Bowl team was recognized by the Elbert County Board of Education during their meeting last night.

The team was coming off of a win in their respectful regional district, which has earned them a trip to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to compete in the national ethics competition.

Team Coach Major Ed Lovin says the team is preparing for another win.

“Hopefully we will bring another one back”, said Major Lovin. “They are doing a lot of prep right now, and hopefully we can help get the teachers involved because it’s good to hear their viewpoints based on the experience they have.”

ECCHS JROTC Battalion Commander c/LTC Clay Carlton explains that this is not an ordinary debate.

“It was just an honor to debate over these topics using ethical and moral values”, said Carlton. “A regular debate you would use research, with this you have to use research with also looking at it from an ethical standpoint.”

The team went 5-0 during their regional competition.

The national event takes place on April 18th and 19th.
