An Elbert County juvenile is in custody after a botched burglary attempt at a Bowman convenience store.
According to Lt. Darren Scarborough with the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, a 9-1-1 call was received just after 2:00am on Monday morning.
He says when deputies arrived on scene; the suspect was apprehended in the cooler of the store.
“There was a window busted where he gained entry”, said Scarborough. “The cash register was actually taken and thrown outside. The suspect was apprehended in the cooler of the store.”
The juvenile was charged with one count each of 2nd Degree Burglary, 2nd Degree Criminal Damage to Property, Felony Theft by Taking of a Motor Vehicle, and Obstruction of Law Enforcement.
Scarborough says that the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the Hart County Sheriff’s Office.
“I want to commend Lt. Brandon Dye and his shift on a job well done”, said Scarborough. “We were aided in the apprehension of the suspect by the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, I want to thank them for their assistance.”
The suspect is being held at the Gainesville Youth Detention Center, and is currently awaiting a hearing by a juvenile court judge.
As is the case with all juvenile cases, the name of the suspect can not be released.
