Elbert County Sheriff Melvin Andrews said that deputies received a call of a suspicious vehicle off of Deep Creek Road.
“Upon arrival officers made contact with Mr. Cameron Benton”, said Sheriff Andrews. “Mr. Benton appeared to be very agitated and was swinging his arms and talking non stop, he became aggressive towards officers, and was then placed under arrest.”
Benton was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and a drug related object.
He faces charges of DUI of Drugs, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana (Less than 1oz.), Possession and Use of Drug Related Objects, and Obstruction of Law Enforcement.
After being arrested, Benton was transported to the Elbert County Detention Center, no word on if bond has been set or posted at this time.
