Two decades, that is how long Elbert County’s MLK Committee has been operating, and coming up this weekend they will be holding a series of events honoring the late great Martin Luther King Jr.

Mary Clark is the President of the Committee, and talks about the growth of the committee since its first weekend.

“We have grown so much since our very first weekend. People have become more receptive, and we are getting participation from all segments of the community”, said Clark

She says that the growth has also spilled over into neighboring areas and communities close to Elberton.

“We have people from Athens coming in and participating, Oglethorpe County, and South Carolina”, said Clark. “We are just so pleased with the support that we are receiving.”

The MLK Weekend gets started with the MLK Banquet, which will be held at the Elberton Civic Center at 6:00pm on Saturday, January 19th.

The MLK Parade follows that Sunday, and it will begin at 4:00pm. Then on Monday, the MLK Weekend concludes with the MLK Academic Bowl at the Black
